I found the greatest pattern for beginners. I have just begun to knit and crochet.
I need some advice from you all who have done this for a while. When I cast on, and then knit the first row, how do I keep from the yarn getting so long between. With just 30 cast on the middle gets about 6 inches long for me.
Also, when I cast on, I have to put an extra one on so that the last one, I can pull out. If I don't the end ones come apart before I can get them knitted in the first row. How can I prevent this?
Any suggestions? |

I am from NE TN. I have 7 children all have left the nest. Two of my children are expecting babies, so I am trying really hard to learn to knit and crochet. One is due Jan 1st and one is due Apr 8th. I am just so excited. I have 10 step grandchildren already so I should be prepared by now. I am working on a blanket and just completed my first pair of booties. I say my first because they are just that my first. I need to do them over again. I need more practice.
My husband and I each had 3 by our first marriages and then we had one together. We have a wonderful family.
I am a new LPN. I just graduated last year. I work in an intensive care step-down unit at the hospital.
