Casting On Stitches
This is the first step in the knitting process. The number of stitches you cast on depends on your pattern.
Step 1

Using the needles required by your knitting pattern and a small ball of wool (you could use a leftover piece from a previous project) you can practice casting on stitches before you actually start your knitting project.

"This is a book of patterns for the beginning knitter. It guides the new knitter through a variety of sweaters, vests, jackets, and cardigans all designed to ease the beginner into mastery of the craft. The author explains how to create patterns by measuring a favorite sweater. All-important schematics are included, as are hints for design variations and embellishments. There are many designs employing interesting specialty yarns. Enthusiastically recommended for knitting collections."
