Book Review

Quilting Patterns: 110 Full-Size Ready-to-Use Patterns and Complete Instructions may have been originally published in 1984 but the instructions contained in its pages for the art of quilting are timeless. It is a great resource for quilters of all ages and experience levels with its wide variety of patterns.

What I really like about Quilting Patterns is the inclusion of instructions on the various steps required to use the patterns as well as the quilting process. The author writes with the voice of experience lending credibility and respectability to the information she is imparting. It also seems like she has the desire to ensure that the readers’ quilting projects are successful by providing clear, detailed instructions on the quilting process. There are three methods of how to use the patterns so you can choose one depending on your capabilities and preferred technique with detailed diagrams accompanying the instructions. There is also a detailed section (also including diagrams) on the tools and materials required for quilting. This section is followed by Assembling the Quilt Sandwich (with diagrams) and How to Quilt (with detailed diagrams of the stitching process involved in creating the quilt squares). Especially handy is the information on choosing a quilt pattern to ensure your design will look right and you will be happy with the final product.
