The knit stitch also known as the garter stitch, is the second step you should learn. This step entails making the body of your project by adding to the stitches on your needle. Your project could involve using the garter stitch by itself or in combination with others such as the purl stitch, to form your pattern and and eventually the finished project.
Knit stitch step 1

Step One

Insert tip of empty needle through first stitch from bottom through to the top. This needle should be crossed behind the needle with all the stitches on it.

Knit stitch step 2 Step Two

Holding wool in your right hand wrap it around the needle and hold it firmly in place but not too tightly. You are creating the tension in your wool which will result in how tightly knit your piece will be. If it is too tight you will find it hard to knit.

Knit stitch step 3 Step Three

Using the index finger of your left hand guide needle back slowly toward stitch opening.
