Book Review
Valentine Treats encompasses all aspects of Valentine's Day. The
content includes decorations, cards, gift tags, gifts, gift-wrapping
techniques, a bookmark, candy box, bouquet wrap, tussie mussies
and recipes for food and treats to complete your holiday celebration.
When you are thinking about those special someone's you'd like to
share Valentine's Day with you probably don't only think about the
people in your life. Also included in this book are gift ideas for
those four-legged friends of yours (dog bones and bathtub bribes
you can make for them to eat).
Not only is there all these wonderful things to make in this book
there are also articles which include information and thoughts on
Valentine's Day (what it is all about and its history), tips for
cooking with kids, art box basics, tips for crafting with kids,
around the house supplies, the language of flowers, tips for love
among the roses and tips for rolled cookies). I like the way many
of the foods (Valentine sugar cookies, Heart and flower snacks and
daisies, Sweetheart scones, Morning eggs in heart frames, Soft-cooked
eggs with butter-toasted hearts, Pitter patter pancakes, Filet mignon
with four butters and Bergamot panna cotta) are made in a heart
shape to celebrate Valentine's Day.
I like the way each chapter is preceded by a description of the
projects that are contained in the following pages and I also like
the brief, personal introduction to the instructions for each of
the crafts and recipes in this book. The instructions for the crafts
and the recipes are detailed and easy to follow and some of the
recipes include variations (i.e. the Valentine Sugar Cookies can
be flavored or the recipe changed slightly to make Razzle Dazzle
Hearts, Chocolate Almond Sugar Hearts or Cinnamon Candy Sugar Hearts).
Valentine Treats is a great resource for planning a complete Valentine's
Day celebration involving the whole family in the preparations.
