Book Review
Bear lovers will delight in this book because there are many types
of bears to make. The projects are divided into these groupings:
Classic Bears, Wooly Bears, Bears to Cook, Bears to Sew and Bears
in Paper, Card and Wood and include such techniques as sewing, knitting,
embroidery, printing on fabric and paper, making wooden toys and
decorating a cake.
Important tips to know about this book:
- There is a very useful stitch guide to refer to when you are
making a project that involves a specific stitch technique with
which you may not be very familiar.
- "Please read before making" tips are included with
the teddy bear projects to help you work with the fur fabric correctly
so your bear turns out like it is supposed to.
- The instructions for the projects are very clear and specific
with little tips or reminders within them to ensure successful
completion of a project (i.e. "Do not skip the pinning and
tacking or the material will move and be spoilt when machining
or sewing." Page 83-Pyjama Case)
- The patterns accompanying the projects are either full scale
or require further adjustment. They are clearly labeled
as to how they need to be adjusted to create the proper size pattern
for the project.
- There is a handy "Knitting needle size equivalents"
chart accompanying the instructions for the first knitting project
(The Greedy Bear Sweater) on page 31.
- There are Measurements, Tension and Abbreviations charts included
with the instructions for each knitting project.
I really like this book because it is easy to use and geared toward
successfully completing the projects with all the necessary information
at your fingertips. I especially like all the extra helpful
hints in yellow or pink boxes included with some of the craft projects. |
