Book Review:
At the beginning of each chapter/season and occasionally throughout
Seasons in Cross-Stitch are delightful quotes and color photos that
reflect the seasons and no doubt inspired the author’s designs.
Also at the beginning of each chapter is a color photo of every
project for that season. Following that are the instructions for
individual projects with full-page color photos of the project,
arranged in matching theme settings that make it even more attractive.
This book contains delightful themed patterns of cats, flowers,
bunnies, children, religious images and bible quotations, sewing,
gardening, golfing, Victorian, teatime, teddy bears, Halloween,
Santa and snowmen and unicorns. Instructions for these projects/great
patterns are broken down into specifics of the stitches required
for different parts of the designs, the colors needed for all the
parts of the designs and the symbols/number/description of the floss
colors you will be using. At the beginning of the pattern there
are instructions concerning the fabric used, the size of the fabric
used and the final size of the design. There is also a materials
list and directions for completing the project (i.e. framing, pillow
making, mounting to a basket, making tablecloths and napkins, adding
a design to a sweatshirt and an afghan, plastic canvas ornaments
and a pillow doll set).
There is a general instructions section (covering backstitch, buttonhole
stitch, centering the design, cleaning completed work, cord piping,
couched straight stitch, cross-stitch, cross-stitch half, fabrics
& waste canvas floss & carrying floss, French knot, lazy
daisy, mark on fabric, needles, patterns, securing the floss, slip
stitch, Smyrna cross, elongated Smyrna cross) at the back of the
book.
