Book Review
Following an introduction from the author there is a section outlining
the tools and equipment required to create the layouts in Scrapbooking:
100 Techniques (…). There are descriptions accompanying the
photos of the tools and equipment as well as an important paragraph
on the use of acid free products. Half the book is dedicated to
instruction on the different techniques; covers and pages (i.e.
embroidering a title), decorating backgrounds (i.e. use of patterned
backgrounds), decorating edges (i.e. machine stitching), preparing
photographs (i.e. photo mosaic) and sticking and fixing (i.e. eyelets),
that will play a big part in the creating the 25 projects included
in the second half of the book.
The information that is included in this book, the technique instruction
pages and the step-by-step instructions (with photos) for the projects
is very valuable for first time scrapbookers. The style of the step-by-step
instructions with photos is a bit different than in other books
because the instructions aren’t always directly below or beside
the photo they represent. The instructions and photos are numbered
separately so you can easily make the connection when recreating
a layout. Also handy is a list that outlines the materials and techniques
used for each project. It is included on the first page of the project
instructions and refers back to the page where the use of that particular
material or technique was demonstrated for easy access.
I like the brief overview at the beginning of the Projects portion
of the book. It wets your appetite with a photo sample of some of
the projects. The Projects section of this book is divided into
Vacation Memories, Baby Memories, Childhood Memories, Romantic Memories
and Family Memories. The templates required for the layouts in this
book are at the back of the book. When a template is essential in
the recreation of a layout it is indicated in the Materials and
Techniques list on the first page of the project instructions. There
is also a bonus section containing Motifs and Mottoes in case you
can’t think of the creative words you want to use to embellish
your treasured photos. Scrapbooking: 100 Techniques with 25 Projects
plus a Swipefile of Motifs and Mottoes is a great resource for scrapbookers
of all experience levels because it has technique instructions for
beginners and interesting and creative layout ideas (using a wide
variety of materials and techniques) for everyone else. |
