Book Review
This book takes you through the subtle art of sandcastle making
that is leaps and bounds from the bucket molds you make with your
child in the sandbox or at the beach. It teaches and enhances your
skills as a novice sandcastle maker. What I really like about this
book is that after you have read it from cover to cover and experimented
a little at the beach or on a small scale in the sandbox you can
see yourself successfully making sandcastles you may only have dreamed
about.
Sandcastles Made Simple is a complete book on creating sandcastles
that starts you off with the basics of making sandcastles and moves
on to methods of building sandcastles, carving sandcastles, making
sandcastles with groups and children and resources to help you build
a better sandcastle. The book is broken down into the above sections
with step-by-step instructions accompanying photos for each method
and technique being demonstrated. Along with these step-by-step
instructions there are articles and hints and tips that will help
you be more successful at sandcastle making based on the author’s
own experiences.
The best part about this book is that it makes sandcastle-building
look like the fun it should be while helping you through what might
seem like tough techniques and methods to achieve what you want.
I also liked that the author didn’t discount the capabilities
of children as young as five when it comes to making sandcastles.
She wrote about the potential for it being a group effort where
the children could collect seashells and other pieces from the beach
to add to the sandcastle so it can be family creation. The photos
in Sandcastles Made Simple are so beautiful and inspiring you just
can’t help but want to get out there and start digging in
the sand and start building (with a little help from the instructions
in this book). |
