Book Review
I love the projects in the book Rock Painting Fun for Everyone!
so much it was hard to not choose all painted rocks as my favorites.
I love the author’s simple and positive style of writing,
which the reader gets their first exposure to in the Introduction.
She encourages you to enjoy the rock painting experience and her
enthusiasm is infectious because she makes you believe you can create
wonderfully painted rocks. Before beginning any of the projects
in this book it is important to read the Getting Started section
so you are aware of what is involved in painting rocks (including
selecting rocks, painting tips, painting basics, mixing custom colors
and techniques) as well as the tools and materials required.
The projects in this book cover a variety of occasions and interests
including seasons (Winter), flowers and fruit, holidays (Halloween
and Christmas) as well as cats, dogs and butterflies. Photos demonstrating
each step as well as a black and white drawing of the design on
the rock accompany the straightforward and clearly written step-by-step
instructions. Preceding the instructions for each painted rock project
there is a section on the type of rock to use for the project including
how the author chose the rock she used. I really like the More Ideas
section following most of the project instructions in which there
is a photo or photos of one or more ways to paint your rocks. There
are also tips boxes included with many of the projects to ensure
the success of your rock painting project as well as preserving
all your hard work.
What I like best about Rock Painting Fun is the author’s
style of presenting her projects. The final products are beautifully
displayed in full color photos to give the reader the illusion of
the subject painted on the rocks (i.e. the strawberries and the
rest of the fruit painted on rocks in this book looks good enough
to eat). I have had this book less than a week and I already want
to get out there and look for rocks that might be suitable for one
of the projects contained in its pages. Painting is not my strong
suit but Lin makes me feel like I can paint something beautiful
on a rock and all I have to do is use my imagination.
