Book Review
Outdoor Décor is broken down into four chapters of decorating
goodness (Decorating the Outdoors, The Yard & Garden, The Porch
& Patio and Creative Lighting Effects). The first chapter, Decorating
the Outdoors is an introduction to the rest of the book because
it features pictures of a variety of the projects in the book to
give you a hint of what is to come. This glimpse into the type of
projects really whets my appetite for making one of the crafts featured
in the book. For a small book it is jam-packed with great ideas!
In the chapter of projects for the Yard & Garden there are
a few pages of informal project ideas called Creative Containers
(teapots, a fishing creel, cowboy boots, old wagon, watering can,
colander, picnic basket, hanging mailbox, cheese boxes and wooden
crates, with brief descriptions of how to make them. The photos
describe and display the unusual containers beautifully and inspire
the readers with something quick and easy to make if that is all
they are looking to do. The more complex projects include deck rail
planters, hanging planters, trellises (including how to mount them),
water gardens, garden stones, birdhouses and birdfeeders, banners,
windsocks and garden posts, yard & garden signs and hammocks.
Descriptive and useful photos accompany the clear step-by-step instructions.
In the following chapters, The Porch & Patio and Creative
Lighting Effects there are wonderful projects to make including
tablecloths for umbrella-style and picnic tables, outdoor furniture
cushions, a tree table, outdoor furniture cushions, wind chimes
from flatware and a variety of wreaths to decorate with outdoors.
Decorating with string lights, paper shades, landscape lighting
and luminaries are the highlights of the chapter on Creative Lighting
Effects. What I like about all the chapters in this book are the
More Ideas sections for trellises, decorating birdhouses, banners,
garden posts, decorating with ribbons, outdoor lighting and luminaries. |
