Book Review:
I loved looking at all the patterns in Cross-Stitch Designs because
they were all in color and were very inspiring. I was also very
pleased that projects ranged from small magnets to detailed pillow
designs meaning cross-stitch enthusiasts of all levels including
those just learning can benefit from the patterns in this book.
There is also a general instructions section at the beginning of
the book which is great for beginners because they can learn all
about fabric for cross-stitch, number of floss strands, finished
design size, preparing fabric, needles for cross-stitch, floss,
centering design, securing floss, carrying floss, cleaning finished
design, cross-stitch (XS), backstitch (BS) and French knot (FK).
One thing I would have like to see was a photo of the finished
product for all the designs. For instance in the Designs for Pillows
chapter, there are photos of five pillows while there are eight
other pillows without photos. I'm not sure of the reason for this
but at least the patterns are in color. Next to the patterns are
the floss charts so you know which stitches to use with which colors
for the design you are making. Unfortunately this is all the instruction
you are given so either you have to have some knowledge of how to
assemble the finished product you are making or find out how from
another source. This book is all about the designs so it isn't necessarily
the best resource book for the absolute beginner. |
