Book Review
Creative Lettering Made Easy is a great book for beginners. It
contains a wealth of information and clear step-by-step instructions
(accompanied by photos) for the lettering projects.
The introduction covers the history of calligraphy as well as the
background and uses for lettering. Make sure to read the section
on Lettering Terms as the terms are mentioned regularly throughout
the book.
In the section on Basic Lettering Techniques you learn about using
your computer (how to use fonts, sizes, colors and styles effectively)
and maximizing space. There are useful tips or comments included
in most of the sections and craft instructions to ensure success
with whichever technique you are using for the respective craft.
Photos and clear instructions accompany each technique. I like that
the author provides the amount of detail she does because this gives
you a better chance of success with the craft you choose to make
using creative lettering, even if you are a beginner.
The section on Basic Crafting Techniques is very important because
it includes the instructions for the techniques used in this book
with the projects as examples. Tips and instructions on decoupage
with the decoupaged wine tray as an example of this technique are
included. You can also learn about antiquing paper and there is
a bonus Crafting with Paper section including information on where
to find the papers you need, how to use them and for what.
I really like this book, Creative Craft Lettering Made Easy because
it uses lettering for so many different types of projects. The section
on Lettering projects is full of great ideas for a variety of crafts
using techniques such as hand lettering, brush lettering, rubber
stamping, stamping on polymer clay, stencilling, embossing metal,
decoupage and antiquing paper. One of the crafts is a Gilded Desk
Letter Set made with black polymer clay and it includes a variation,
using the same materials to make trivets and coasters to complete
a set. |
