Book Review
Get inspired to make beautiful clay jewelry by the projects included
in this book! Beginner to advanced jewelry makers will enjoy
using it because the techniques involved in making clay jewelry
are explained clearly and in great detail. Before getting
started, the basics section covers the properties of the polymer
clay brands available (Fimo, Sculpey III, Cernit and Modello), how
to handle clay properly and a list of all the tools and equipment
you will need. It's encouraging to see that you can
use tools you have around the home to work with the clay instead
of purchasing the more expensive ones on the market. If you
are just making jewelry as a hobby and aren't sure it is for you;
you don't have to make a large investment.
The types of projects available are grouped into these categories:
necklaces, necklace and earring sets, pins, pin and earrings sets
and bracelets. I really liked that the materials used weren't
limited to the polymer clay itself; for example, the Byzantine Beauty
necklace on pages 124 - 125 has gold leaf liquid paint and metallic
leaf incorporated into its makeup. There is a short glossary
worth a read before you start a project because it explains the
terms that are used consistently throughout the book (i.e. cane).
Some projects involve simple to complex canes. By the same
token, after you have read the jewelry making techniques section,
you should stick with simple cane designs until you feel ready to
try something more complex. There is no rating on the difficulty
of the projects so keep in mind what you read about simple cane
designs in the techniques section. |
