Book Review
Kathy Ross Crafts with Letter Shapes is a good book for teaching
children about letters while making a fun craft based on the shape
of the letter. The instructions for each project are clear and simple,
the number of steps ranging anywhere between two and seven for the
crafts. There are color drawings of the tools and materials required
to make the craft and as well as drawings to accompany the step-by-step
instructions. I like that there are little bonuses with each of
the crafts to extend the learning based on the letter associated
with the craft. For example, with the letter M there is a question,
“Can you name some munchies that the letter M mouse might
eat that start with the letter M?” This question is accompanied
by drawings of the answer to the question you can use to prompt
children if they can’t think of it on their own. Another good
example of a bonus craft associated with a letter is the magazine
picture puzzles you can make of items starting with the letter P.
This book is a great resource for teachers and parents alike to
enhance their children’s learning in a fun way. At the back
of the book there are some additional activities children can do
based on all the letters of the alphabet including making a name
plaque for their room, an alphabet picture file as well as decorating
each letter of the alphabet with items beginning with the respective
letters. There is nothing bad I can say about this book because
as a parent and a teacher Kathy Ross has found a way to make learning
the alphabet fun and there’s nothing wrong with that! |
