Book Review:
Sesame Street Parents Christmas: Christmas Holiday Projects for
Parents & Children is a very inviting collection of craft, game
and gift ideas for parents and children to do together. I was very
impressed and happy to see that the patterns and illustrated instructions
were all in color because that makes them more attractive and easy
to follow since it is geared toward children as well as parents.
This bright colorful book is divided into clear and straightforward
sections; Holiday House, Merry Munchies, Reindeer Games, Party'n'
Things, Presents to Make, Wrap it Up, Awesome Ornaments, Christmas
Greetings and Grin and Wear It.
Some of the crafts are shown in real-life settings that let you
know what they would look like displayed and others are modeled
by or with children. Between each chapter there is a dividing page
with one or more Sesame Street characters on the page next to the
title page for the chapter. The patterns are included with the crafts
instead of in a separate section, which is more helpful and convenient
for the parents and the children. There is more than one variation
for some of the crafts in this book (i.e. Star and Gumdrop Garlands,
Dip-and- Drip Flowerpots and Star and Christmas Lights stitched
cards). Not all of the crafts give an age rating but these projects
are supposed to be for the family to do together so parents can
use their discretion because they know what their children can or
cannot do.
The best part of this book is that it has a fun, festive look to
it with all the colors graphics and images of the Sesame Street
characters. There are also little introductions to each craft most
of which involve the Sesame Street characters saying how they made
the craft and/or how it could be used. This is a charming touch
to the book because it means every aspect of the book has been geared
toward children and it is also just plain cute. Kids will identify
with their favorite characters and want to make certain crafts based
on the images of the crafts and/or the Sesame Street characters. |
