Book Review
The first thing that I like about this book is the important note
to children, parents and teachers on the contents page at the beginning
of the book. It outlines the age restrictions for the crafts as
well as a reminder that young children should be supervised when
engaging in any of the activities in this book. There is also a
rating system in the Table of Contents with a scissors symbol next
to those crafts which crafts require adult supervision. I like that
this whole book is very helpful with clear instructions for the
craft projects contained in its pages.
Each craft is displayed in a two-page spread of colorful photos
depicting the materials used with step-by-step instructions accompanying
the photos. The directions are easy to follow and the final products
are attractive and inspiring. Following the instructions for each
craft there is a section called Use your imagination with a light
bulb symbol next to it. This extra hint outlines ways to extend
the craft by creating it in a different way.
Even though some of the crafts may require adult assistance depending
on the age and capabilities of the child making the craft there
is an opportunity for children to learn/practice such skills as
drawing, cutting, gluing and design (i.e. Glamorous Gift Bag). At
the back of the book there is a list of suppliers for the materials
used in the book as well as a useful book/video/web site list for
more information on making crafts. |
