Book Review
Autumn is a simple book about great crafts children can make during
the fall season. There is a little bit of background on the season
in the introductory section called Autumn Colors. Background is
also provided on each of the events behind the crafts in this book.
Color drawings are used to illustrate the materials needed for the
crafts in this book as well as the step-by-step instructions for
the crafts. There is also a materials list highlighted in yellow
for each craft and an Autumn Calendar and glossary of new and unfamiliar
terms used in this book included at the back.
I really like the way there is a color photo on the first page
of every craft project. They are beautiful and really capture the
essence of the season or event the craft represents. Crafts or projects
are included for The Fall, Chinese Kite Festival, Back to School,
Harvest Time, Migration, Hibernation, Autumn Animals, Diwali, United
Nations Day, Halloween, All Souls’ Day and Autumn Stars. I
also like that the crafts reflect a multicultural society in the
origin of the event behind the projects as well as the photograph
of children from various backgrounds working together on a project
in school (Back to School). Not only do the crafts in this book
provide the opportunity for children to work together but families
because assistance may be required for cutting and gluing depending
on the ages of the children. It would also be fun to get together
as a family to gather the natural materials required for the crafts. |
