Book Review
Kathy Ross has done it again with another book full of fun and
easy crafts called All New Crafts for Easter! I really like that
the crafts in this book involve the use of recyclable materials
as well as things you probably have on hand (i.e. rolls of toilet
paper, plastic lemon juice container, puzzle pieces, cotton swabs
and eggs for their eggshells). The crafts include baskets, chicks,
bonnets, bunnies, flowers, wreaths, puppets, a favor and a place
card made from a variety of materials all in the Easter or spring
themes.
One of the parts I like best about All New Crafts for Easter is
that the drawings in the book are so appealing. The pages of this
book are decorated with attractive borders that reflect the predominantly
Easter theme of the projects. The color schemes of the borders and
the drawings of the crafts themselves make the pages of this book
bright and attention grabbing. This entices the reader to want to
make the projects.
Typically in Ross’ books, the materials and tools are illustrated
in recognizable drawings so children can identify what is needed
to make the craft. Clear drawings demonstrating the process also
accompany the easy to follow step-by-step instructions for the crafts
in All New Crafts for Easter. Compiling the instructions for the
projects in this way facilitates the independent use of her book
by children aged 7-8 and minimal adult assistance for those aged
4-6. This gives children a sense of accomplishment that they can
attempt something on their own. |
