Book Review
Adorable Sock Dolls to Make & Love has great ideas for making
dolls that would be special to receive and readers can get a jump
on Christmas gifts by making one of the projects from this book.
The content of Adorable Sock dolls is divided into four chapters;
General Instructions, At the Zoo, On the Farm and At A Party. Before
beginning any project it is essential to read the General Instructions
chapter to learn the basic techniques required to make sock dolls.
There are clear step – by – step instructions with photos
and diagrams demonstrating the major steps and techniques. The diagrams
of the embroidery stitches are especially helpful for those without
little experience doing embroidery.
Accompanying each project are the tools and materials required
in addition to the ones listed in the General Instructions chapter.
In the instructions the reader is also referred back to the General
Instructions as a reminder of the importance of reading that essential
information. There are no photos accompanying the instructions for
the individual crafts but there is a cutting diagram indicating
where you need to cut the sock to make your doll. The instructions
for the project are divided into the parts of the sock doll, which
are made separately then assembled. There is a useful photo of the
final product, however, in a suitable setting (i.e. a Gorilla in
a jungle).
What I really like about Adorable Sock Dolls to Make & Love
is that the authors have considered safety of the dolls they are
making paramount so children under 3 can safely play with them.
They are clearly identified by a heart symbol. The one thing I don’t
like about this book is that the instructions for the wings, which
are required for several projects, are at the back of the book instead
of in the General Instructions chapter with the rest of the techniques. |
